The coming fall/winter season needs to be a (immune) balancing act

The experts are warning that the 2009 fall/winter season could be a miserable oneĀ from a public health standpoint. The stuff thatflu we experienced last winter and spring may be returning, and more nasty than before.

One way to prepare is to do everything possible to get your immune system in balance, so that your killer cells kill when they need to (and kill fast), and your suppressor cells call off the attack dog cells when an aggressive immune response is not needed. Over-reactive immune response may create a lot of problems, from undue inflammation to excess phlegm and other problems.

This link from a chiropractic online publication talks about the benefits of adjustments on the immune system. I’m not a chiropractic aficionado, but I did go to a chiro last year for about 4 months because I was snoring like a bloody outboard motor and my wife was ready to strangle me and stuff me in a closet. The sessions did work, and very well. I basically was snore free. I don’t know about their claims regarding nervous system and immune health and how it pertains to chiropractic, but I have posted some findings here earlier this year on how the nervous system can impact immune balance performance.

A lot of news coverage is revving up, as evidenced in this CNN video below, about the coming storm. I’ll be ready.

I believe chiropractic care is key. Yes indeed, it is very important to build up our immune systems now! Chiropractic care is one way. A detox fast to get rid of phlegm (which is usually a sign of weak immune system) is another. Or upping your raw juicing and upping vitamins like zinc. Much talk by natural health leaders lately stresses the importance of sunlight and getting vitamin D. Most important- not to rely on antibiotics when you are sick but to instead take natural “antibiotics” like echinacea (but be careful! not just any echinacea will do! you have to ensure it’s a quality one consult with an herbalist!), raw garlic is another, also consider researching “colloidal silver” and “Golden Seal” which should only be taken if you are actually sick whereas garlic is also good for both it’s also safe as a preventative and echinacea I believe you are supposed to take when you feel a cold/sickness coming on. Feel free to ask me for details, I can share what my research turned up :)

Jade: Can you share any science you have on zinc, echinacea or the others. I have these links and the science seems a little spotty. Also, these appear to function as “boosters.”

I’m open to posting anything you’d like to send along. Thanks for the comment.
