Thursdays with Munnie – Oct. 16 edition

Welcome to a new weekly feature on Balanced Immune Health; Thursdays with Munnie. Each Thursday, I’ll post some ridiculous video clip that’s pretty funny.

The reason? Science is pointing to evidence that laughter and humor may enhance immune activity in several ways. To quote one paper:  “..the findings did demonstrate that subjects had significantly increased SIgA levels (P < 0.025) after watching the humorous video (Richard Pryor Live), indicating that exposure to humor (and indirectly, subsequent laughter or other humor response) can increase one measure of immune function (SIgA levels). This supports the popular view that humor can be healthy, but obviously needs additional support before adoption by the scientific community.

Like this paper says, the science on humor and immune system performance is still new enough and trials still small enough that broad conclusions cannot be drawn. Still, it’s a starting point. Feel free to send along any clips you come across. Warning: I’m not a pushover. I have to think it’s pretty dang funny (but not gross or totally bent) to get used.

I’m a firm believer in humor as a way of helping with pain, health, and just life in general. It’s hard to concentrate on pain when you’re laughing:

Well, that didn’t turn out as I had planned. Maybe this will work better:

    Hey Lisa:

That was a good one. Man, they went to a lot of work to set up that water trap. Thanks for sharing that vid.

Yes! Humor is most important in the process of healing, as well as everyday life. It not only affects the individual, it can actaully spread this good feeling to others. Keep Smiling!
